LAHORE MUSEUM

Designed by the well-known Lahori Architect, Sir Ganga Ram during the British Colonial Period

Founded in 1865-66 on the site of the current Tollinton Market-a Hall built for the 1864 Punjab Exhibition and opened in 1894 at its current location. Rudyard Kipling’s father, John Lockwood Kipling, was one of the museum’s first curators, The museum is now also renowned for its extensive collection of Buddhist art from the ancient Indo-Greek and Gandhara kingdoms. It also has collections from the Mughal Empire, Sikh Empire and the British Empire in India. Lahore Museum is Pakistan’s most visited and famous museums and remains one of the major museums in South Asia.

he Javed Manzil is a museum in Lahore listed as a Tentative UNESCO site

Situated in Garhi Shahu Lahore. This museum was declared as Iqbal Museum in 1984. The building was built in European style and was completed in 1935. Iqbal named the residence “Javed Manzil” after his son Javid Iqbal. This museum contains handwritten drafts of Iqbal’s works, photographs, certificates, letters written by him or written to him, awards and medals and educational degrees. There is a library and nine galleries in the museum.  The famous poet of sub-continent Muhammad Iqbal lived here in this building for just three years, and also died here on April 21, 1938.

TAXILA MUSEUM

The museum display collection of Gandharan art dating from the 1st to the 7th centuries CE

Taxila Museum, is situated 35 Kilometre north west of Islamabad. Its foundation stone was laid in 1918 by Lord Chelmsford, the then Viceroy and Governor-General of British India, while the opening ceremony was performed by Sir Muhammad Habibullah, on 5th April, 1928. From the vast collection of antiquities recovered from the excavations at Taxila, over seven thousand rare and preserved objects have been displayed in the Museum. Archaeological excavation at Taxila were carried out between the years 1913 and 1934 by Sir John Marshall,. After Independence, it was left to Pakistani Archaeologists revealed the remains of three ancient cities of Taxila locally known as Bhir Mound, Sirkap and Sirsukh.

Army Museum Lahore

Army Museum Lahore displays arms and ammunition from the Mughal Era and all the way up to modern weapons.

Army Museum Lahore is located in Lahore documenting the military history of the Pakistan Army. Established in 2017, it is based on Lahore Cantonment land opposite Lahore Airport. The museum is Pakistan’s second largest collection of military objects in the country.
