Secrets of the Soon Valley

Amb Temple Soon Valley

Amb was an important Hindu religious centre from the 6th to the 10th century. !!

Amb is a small village. Centuries ago, it was an important Hindu religious centre. Two large temples still exist today. Amb temples belong to the Hindu Shahi dynasty that ruled India from the 6th to the 10th century. After 500 years in power, the dynasty met its end with the arrival of Mahmud Ghaznavi in the 10th century. It appears that Hindu Shahi dynasty ruled over a rich kingdom as reflected by the temples and excavations at sites from that era.

There are two main structures still standing at the site. One is around a seventy feet high three-storeyed temple, rich with beautiful Kashmiri style ornamentation. The temple consists of three storeys. and is now supported by a concrete structure. There is another, smaller temple about fifty metres away from the main temple which was prayer chambers for Hindu Jogis.

Centuries old Mysterious City of Tulajha

Tulaja is like a dream, it is mysterious, abandoned and few people know about it. Go explore it. Omar Mukhtar Khan published in DAWN on 13 Apr, 2020

Salt range was under Hindu Shahi Empire from (879-1026) AD and Tulajha constructed in same period. Tulajha refers to Indian goddess of mercy and slayer of evil.  On top of Tulaajha there are ruins of old palaces. Tulajha was a Hindu settlement and one can also find large number of Buddhist graves in the valley reflecting prehistoric time. Jalal ad-Din Khwarazmshah came to this place in 1221 to seek shelter from the forces of Mongols. Rai Sangin who provide him shelter in the fortress of Tulajha hidden away behind the ridges, Jalaluddin Khwarazm constructed roughly three hundred houses, water supply and water tank.  Later, there might be possibility that the Mongol troops arrived there to trace Jalaluddin Khwarazm who escaped and in retaliation Mongol army destroyed the whole fort and turned into ruins.
