“If we want to make this great State of Pakistan happy and prosperous we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well being of the people and especially of the masses and the poor.”
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Presidential Address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan,11 August, 1947
Message from His Excellency
Imran Khan
The Prime Minister, Pakistan
Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world and a rapidly growing economic sector which is recognized and respected as a major agent of social and economic prosperity in the world today. Such a rapidly evolving phenomenon necessitates a level of policy response which is capable of recognizing its fast paced growth and adaptability to the constantly changing trends and tastes. It is for this reason that the Government has taken the initiative to launch National Tourism Strategy for Pakistan, which will guide the sector for next 10 years (2020-2030).
With this strategy, I reaffirm the government’s commitment to give tourism a priority in the future development of the country both nationally and internationally. This sector has immense potential for growth and possesses the capability to contribute effectively towards economic diversification and social development, considering how our country is endowed with splendid touristic assets such as rich cultural heritage, natural landscapes, religious diversity, traditional folklore and culinary delights.
I envision the tourism industry to become a catalyst for employment generation and poverty alleviation, and in the foreseeable future, wish to see every household reap benefits of tourism, directly or indirectly. In addition, the government is focused on improving and creating an enabling environment and also highlight Pakistan’s true image on the world stage. The spirit of tolerance and hospitality is ingrained in Pakistani nation, which can be displayed across the globe through a thriving and open tourism culture. In the immediate and long-term, this strategy will form basis to develop and enhance the tourism sector, enabling it to stand on its own feet in a severely competitive, flexible and diversified international market.
